A.  Socials:

Fall Equinox Social

Temperatures are beginning to cool, school is back in session and schedules are returning to normal.  It can be a bit of a downer.  But, don’t forget that fall is full of amazing things.  Fall leaves, pumpkin spice, AND our first social!

Join us to celebrate the Fall Equinox Friday September 22nd at 6:45pm for drinks at The Corner Place (http://www.thecornerplace.ca) to meet fellow members, sip a cold one, and enjoy the crisp air.  Look for the SCULLHOUSE crew inside!

B.  New Classes & Scheduling Changes:

Introducing the 2k Training Row and Enduro Row

The 2k Training Row class requires instructor permission (speak with your instructor after class or see Kristin).  This class is not for the faint of heart!  We will be training to race 2 km at the Canadian Indoor Rowing Championships taking place in Mississauga this February.  All ages and abilities welcome - we’re just looking for solid technique, lots of motivation and drive!

The Enduro Row class is a 75 minute class geared towards endurance athletes or those looking to improve on their endurance.  Are you a runner, a cyclist, a triathlete?  Looking to improve your stamina and spend a bit more time stretching out your sore muscles?  Then this class is for you!  Enduro Row is not suitable for a first class.

More Classes and Schedule Changes

Starting October 1st, our schedule will see additional class times and a few class moves.  Stay tuned!

C.  Fall Challenge - September 15th to October 15th:

Starting today, SCULLHOUSE  is participating in the Concept2 Fall Challenge.  SCULLHOUSE is competing with other indoor rowing communities to see who can rack up the most kilometres.  We are offering prizes to the top man and woman logging the most kilometres during the challenge.

1st place:  5 Class Pack

2nd place: SCULLHOUSE hat

3rd place:  SCULLHOUSE shirt

To be eligible, kilometres must be tracked through the ErgData app and uploaded to the SCULLHOUSE team page.  If you need assistance creating your Concept2 Logbook to track your distance, ask any SCULLHOUSE team member for help.  You can create your Logbook on the Concept2 website (https://log.concept2.com/login) and then you "sync" your kilometers from the app.

D.  Technique Tip:

What do we mean when we say “Hang on the handle” during the drive?

To gain maximum power and efficiency, you need to find a way to transfer the power in your legs directly to the handle, without losing any of that power along the way.  Similarly, every ounce of power we apply to the handlebars comes directly from how hard we drive through our feet against the foot stretchers.  There should be a direct connection between the push against the foot stretchers and the pull on the handle.  The hang begins at the catch, and if you’re doing it right, you’ll feel a stretch in the lower back and lats, rather than tension in the shoulders.

Most of the interruptions in the transfer of power from the legs to the handle are likely to be because we break the elbows too soon or hunch our shoulders.  That is why we focus on legs at the beginning of class - to illustrate the direct connection between legs, and the handle.

E.  Special Offers:

Class packages/memberships

We’re excited to see people getting back into their fitness routine!  To help, we’re offering 10% off your first month on a monthly membership with a three month commitment.  Thinking more long term?  Purchase 6 months up front and pay no tax on the total purchase!  Even better, purchase a full year and we’ll discount the year by 15%.
